What can you do?

My good friend shared this graphic on Facebook last night. With her husband, an ex NH jockey, she runs a small equestrian business retraining racehorses and, she runs a trekking centre in the Mendips.

They work really hard, 7 days a week, with a 13 year old daughter and twin boys aged just 2! Add home schooling to that…now that’s what hard work looks like.

So many of us work for SMEs; what are we doing to support each other? As Amy has done on Facebook, we can all share the message that supporting small businesses is critical to the economy, to jobs, to our sense of purpose and wellbeing, it’s important now more than ever.

Now look at the FSB stats below – impressive aren’t we!

Now do this, it’s free and can make a big difference: give a shout out to other SME’s, make a recommendation, do a review and if you are a big corporate, consider sharing your work adding another small business to your supplier list. Do it now – giving is as rewarding as receiving!

SMEs and the Economy:

· SMEs account for three fifths of the employment and around half of turnover in the UK private sector.

· Total employment in SMEs was 16.8 million (61% of the total), whilst turnover was estimated at £2.3 trillion (52%).

· Employment in small businesses (with 0 to 49 employees) was 13.3 million (48% of the total), with a turnover of £1.6 trillion (36%).
