Whilst Google can be a good starting point, by limiting your search using this method only you may miss out on some great agencies who don’t always feature on Google and grow through referrals. Ask friends, colleagues and even family for recommendations. Draw up a shortlist and research each of these carefully by looking at their websites and social media accounts.
3. Set your budget
If you don’t have a big marketing budget, as many businesses don’t, particularly at this difficult time, then a large agency with large overheads probably isn’t for you. Whilst it isn’t always the case, some of the smaller out of town agencies can often offer a more attentive and focused service and can be a great fit if you’re a smaller business looking for a more personal touch.
4. Do they need to be local?
In today’s connected world, choosing an agency doesn’t need to be restricted by location. Whilst it certainly isn’t always the case, this may help speed up project turnaround times and even help to deliver more effective campaigns.
6. Understand their core services
Whilst it may sound obvious, it is important that the core services offered by the marketing agency are aligned with your goals. For example, if you’re looking for guidance on the bigger picture, with support on marketing strategy and development, then an established full service agency is what you will need, rather than a freelance graphic designer or web development agency. Also, consider your future requirements. Whilst you may only need a new brochure design right now, what else can they help you with in the future?
7. Attitude & approach
How have they followed up your enquiry? Have they put effort into their proposal? Have they clearly outlined pricing and understood your objectives? All these questions are a great indication of their level of professionalism and what you can expect from them going forward.
8. Arrange a chemistry meeting
Arrange a meeting to discuss your project requirements. Whilst face to face meetings are important you can gauge a lot from a Skype or Zoom call too. So, arrange your ‘meet’, ask plenty of questions, get to know who they are and how they work. Find out who you might be working with and ask to ‘meet’ them. Do you feel like you can work together? Are they approachable? It is important to have a good rapport.
